Itzl

Itzl went to the vet each time I took Shika - it took 4 trips to get her spayed and medicated afterwards.  Since I get all the critters vaccinated in March, I waited to spay Shika until March and got her vaccinations at the same time so she’ll be on the same schedule as everyone else.

Itzl likes going to the vet because they pet him and make a big fuss over him.  He’s cute and he knows it and loves the attention.

He was very good getting his vaccinations today - at a different vet from the one who spayed Shika.   That vet (we’ve been taking all our critters to him and a number of strays as well over the last 20 years) suddenly decided animals don’t need pain meds after surgery, so I told him how I felt about that and sought a new vet.

This new one I’ve used in the past for emergencies because the clinic is open 24 hours and because they deal with wild animals.  Whenever I’ve needed vet care for a wounded wild critter (the vixen who was having birthing difficulties, the turtle that got hit by a car,  the possum babies whose mother was hit by a car…), that’s where I went.  Not only are they the only vet to deal with wildlife, they are also very close.  I kept our old vet because I believe in loyalty and we’d been with him for 20 years.  Changing to the new vet for all of our veterinary needs was an easy choice.

So, Itzl was vaccinated.  And now, all the animals are properly vaccinated that need annual vaccinations - cats, dogs, ferrets.

All the other critters are pets, but Itzl is my hearing assistance dog, so he tags along on each and every vet visit and he thinks he’s the one in charge of the vet care of the other critters.  He has to verify the vet is doing things right and reassure the other critters.  And when it’s his turn,  he takes it well.
